Whats in a name?

"Polish officials have become unsettled by media references to Auschwitz as a "Polish concentration camp".

German newspaper Der Spiegel this week called the camp "Polish", prompting anger in Warsaw."

"Poland wants Unesco to change the official name to "Former Nazi German Concentration Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau".

I see no problem in this. As time goes by, many people will refrence Auschwitz as the "polish camp". If they want to rename it to keep their digintiy, then so be it.

"Poland said it expected an answer later this year. "

Good luck.

Defying History?

The film "Defiance" came out this past January. The film is about Jewish brothers in Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe that escape into the Belarussian forests (formally Poland), where they join Russian resistance fighters and go on to build a village in order to protect themselves and about 1,000 Jewish non-combatants.

Many people in Poland did not agree with its adaptation of this true story. Their argument is that its not historically accurate.

Maybe its a good thing that the movie did no do so well over there.

Who considers Hollywood films to be a credible source of historical truth anyway? Unfortunately, a lot of people do.

Sounds like they need to change this to" inspired by a true story".

Dont tase me bro!

What would you do if you believed that I was going to attack you with a stapler? If you said you would tase me, you might be Canadian!

Why in the world would you tase a man 5x until death. I'm sure they could have restrained him if they believed he was that much of a threat. Of course he was distraught and angry..you were using a taser on him!

Thats the last time I raise my voice in a Canadian air port...

Under Pressure ( Insert Queen melody )

"the number of young men entering seminaries is falling, and a survey suggests that more than half of the country's serving priests would like to do away with celibacy to have a wife and family."

I really do not see the issue here. After going to catholic school for 14 years (pre-k-12), you see a lot of priests..These guys need a life as well. They are so many things to so many people. They need

"What worries me is the number of priests who are living a second life that is working as a Catholic priest which presumes to be a celibate, and at the same time having an affair with a woman,"

It wouldn't be an "affair" if it were legal.
This is a very touchy subject, but I do feel the same way many poles do....

"They would serve better for society if they had families, really, because they would understand more things that they are preaching about."

Amen

Eurovision Song Contest

This year Poland has 12 songs represented in the 54th annual Eurovision Song Contest.

You might be wondering what "Eurovision" is....According to the website:

"The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) was formed on 12th February 1950 by 23 broadcasting organisations from Europe and the Mediterranean at a conference in Devon, United Kingdom. It was on the 6th of June, 1954, that Montreux became the venue for the first transmission by the EBU's Eurovision Network of the Narcissus Festival and its flower-bedecked procession floats. "

"In 1955, the EBU came up with the idea of an international song contest whereby countries, represeted by their respective public broadcasters, would participate in one television show, to be transmitted simultaneously in all represented nations"

That makes it one of the longest running TV shows in history....And we thought American Idol was something to be proud of....

Good Luck, Poland!
